Thomas Scheibitz works in a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, collage and photography. The Berlin-based artist studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Dresden. With his sculptures and painting, oftentimes based on simple geometric shapes and patterns, he soon gained international recognition; in 2005 he represented the Federal Republic at the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. His painterly practice poses the question as in how far classical genres such as the still life, the portrait and landscape motifs can be resurrected and continued in the present. The vocabulary of his formal language is grounded in a photographic research that manifests itself in a montage-like combination of painterly fragment on a given support. The juxtaposition of quotidian motifs leads to a condensed structures oscillating between figuration and abstraction. Following this method, for “Texte zur Kunst” Thomas Scheibitz conceived a five colour print referring back to his collages. Titled „Masterplan“, the picture combines a methodological mediation and free imagination as the tonal values in this juxtaposition of prints and photographs is highly reminiscent of the artist’s well-known colour palette. „Masterplan“ thus combines divergent motifs, apparently circling around formal criteria such as structure and surface, to achieve a heterogenous picture plane that registers spontaneous sketches on the pages of a notebook – Scheibitz’s edition therefore can be regarded as the epitome of the creative process itself.
For „Texte zur Kunst“ Thomas Scheibitz conceived a five colour print with a partial lacquering, based on a collage. The print entitled „Masterplan“ measures 50 × 70 cm and comes in an edition of 100 + 20 APs. It is signed and numbered on the front and costs 245,– Euro plus shipping.
