Georg Herold
The Kind of the Mind (2001)
After Georg Herold, born in Jena in 1947, began studying art first in Halle in 1969 and from 1974 in Munich, finishing his studies under Sigmar Polke in Hamburg, he became a Professor at the Academy for Fine Arts in Frankfurt/M. Today he lives and works in Cologne. His objects and installations, often characterized by the use of simple materials, are marked by signs of refusal, of the provocative, of irony and the absurd. Since the eighties, Herold has occupied an important singular position in contemporary art.
For Texte zur Kunst, Georg Herold made a video. It is a loop running thirty minutes, showing Herold's hand rubbing thumb and index finger together - a gesture signifying money. The work entitled "The Kind of the Mind", 2001, is an edition of 100 + 20 a.p. and will cost € 245.- plus shipping.
