Rosemarie Trockel

Ich parshippe jetzt (2015)

Rosemarie Trockel (b. 1952 in Schwerte, North Rhine-Westphalia) is supporting Texte zur Kunst, for the fourth time, with this anniversary artist’s edition. A black-and-white photograph overlaid with a subtle color gradient, it presents the figure of a young person, clear-eyed, hair in curlers. Though strikingly lifelike, the subject pictured is in fact a sculpture – Trockel’s “The Critic,” which appeared as a central work in her 2015 solo exhibition at the Kunsthaus Bregenz. In the image, we see the anthropomorphic object not yet fully dressed, which is to say prior to being outfitted with a bullet-proof vest and odd amulets, a headdress of “Gamsbärten” (tuft of chamois hair worn as a hat decoration), a local festive costume (with slits to reveal garters beneath), and fashionable Comme des Garçons shoes.
