The young Japanese multi-media-artist MARIKO MORI was born in 1967 in Tokyo. At first, she studied fashion design in Japan and then went on to art schools in London and New York. Today, she lives in New York and Tokyo. In her photographs, performances, videos and installations, she often comes up with fantastical futuristic scenarios in which she combines elements of fashion and architecture of popular culture with notions of technical perfection and with music. She fuses Western cultural influences with spiritual and Buddhist philosophies of the East, which are then presented and celebrated as a gesamtkunstwerk that also includes herself.
