Siegfried Anzinger
Karren / Madonna (2000)
The images by Siegfried Anzinger are perfect examples of different manifestations of the gestural. At the beginning of the eighties his paintings reflected a similar style to that of the “Neue Wilde”. With expressive and virtually smeared surfaces, Anzinger placed figures into the images that show a harsh black and white contrast. His later works exude more calm and demonstrate a new awareness of impressions of landscapes and softly drawn, statuesque figures: A development of painterly codes which is typical for artists that originally worked with gestures. For Texte zur Kunst, Anzinger has produced two lithographs that orignated from a larger series. Their motifs have stayed in the same vein as his recent works, even if they almost exaggerate previous structures of his logic: the form of a horse, that appears to be thrown into the image space; and the image of Madonna and child, one that has been completely overused in the course of art history.
Siegfried Anzinger’s numbered and signed lithographs with the working titles of “Karren” and “Madonna” (2000) are 44 x 57.5 cm and 43 x 54.5 cm respectively. They are part of a series of 75 + 20 APs and each cost 245 Euros plus shipping.
