Florian Pumhösl
Vervielfältigung von Bild No. 27 und Bild No. 29 (2009)
Since the mid-nineties Vienna-born (1971) and -based artist Florian Pumhösl is one of the internationally most renowned artists reflecting the legacy of modernism and modernity. For documenta 12 the artist produced an installation programmatically entitled „Modernology (Triangular Atelier)“, that traced the mutual transfers between the German, Russian and Japanese avantgarde movements. Of particular importance in this context was a series of delicate verres églomisés. This sort of painting with synthetic resin lacquer behind glass is a by large forgotten medium of aesthetic modernity. The major part of these works, first shown in 2006, is based on a graphic formal repertoire of black lines, triangles, broken circles and varied hooks, all of which seem to hover against a white monochrome background in compositions reminiscient of constructivism.
For Texte zur Kunst Florian Pumhösl has conceived an artist’s edition entitled „Vervielfältigung von Bild No. 27 und Bild No. 29“ (2009). Each edition consists of two linoleum prints with motifs from „Modernology“ (2007). The prints contained within a specifically produced grey portfolio, measure 39 × 27 and 36,6 × 27 cm. Both prints are numbered on the front with a stamp and signed and numbered with a stamp on an extra paper. The set comes in an edition of 100 + 20 APs and costs 245,– Euro plus shipping.
